Climate Change in the Presidential Debate

By: Jacob Kim

In tonight’s presidential debate, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump clashed over climate change. Harris emphasized that climate change is an existential threat that is already affecting Americans, pointing to rising insurance costs and extreme weather events. She focused on the Biden administration’s clean energy initiatives, highlighting investments of $1 trillion in the clean energy economy, which she claims have created over 800,000 manufacturing jobs. Harris also stressed the importance of producing American-made clean energy products, linking her climate agenda with job creation and the support of the United Auto Workers (UAW).

Donald Trump, on the other hand, avoided detailed discussion on climate policy and instead focused on economic protectionism. He criticized the Biden administration for allegedly causing job losses in the manufacturing sector and argued that manufacturing plants were moving abroad, particularly to Mexico. Trump promised to impose tariffs on foreign-made cars to protect American workers, particularly in Detroit.

This is pure objective data that anyone could have gotten by watching tonight’s debate from an objective perspective. Climate Change is real. We must wakeup and truly decide who we should vote for. Is there a future with Donald Trump at the helm? That’s for you to decide.
