A heat wave is set to hit Southern California this week, bringing the hottest temperatures of the summer, especially from Wednesday to Friday. Inland areas like the San Fernando Valley may reach up to 115°F, while downtown Los Angeles will see highs in the 90s. Cities like Burbank, Pasadena, and Santa Clarita are expected to experience triple-digit heat, with Palm Springs potentially reaching 118°F.
The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning, and cooling centers are opening across Los Angeles. Although fire risks remain, the lack of strong Santa Ana winds reduces the wildfire threat. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak heat, and take precautions, especially vulnerable populations. Experts warn that extreme heat can be deadly, urging people to seek air-conditioned spaces and stay cool.

The graph above displays how much surface temperature has changed from August 2014 to August 2024 in San Bernadino County. Through most days of August both maximum and average temperature have increased by nearly 20 degrees Fahrenheit. This pattern will continue, and the data is evident. Climate change is here and coming soon.
